ABOUT KITEAID and the repair kits for your sail and kites.
Like many good ideas, KITEAID was founded in 2008 out of necessity and passion. After returning from a holiday where valuable kite time was lost due to a damaged kite, we began to look at different options to ensure that this situation would never happen again. After extensive research, we were surprised to find that there were no products on the market that provided fast, high quality repairs while travelling. Based on our technical background, we embarked on a rigorous research and development cycle to find the ultimate solution. Here are the criteria we applied in our development (straight from our notebooks):
Minimise downtime - If a kite gets damaged during a 3-day holiday, I don't want to miss a day of kiting. I want to be flying again in less than an hour.
Permanent - Once a kite is repaired, I don't want to have to deal with it again. It has to be durable and stable.
Easy to use - I want to kite and not have to deal with a tedious process.
Translucent - I don't want the repair to affect the appearance of my kite.
Environmentally independent - The same repair needs to work for my foil kite at -20°C as it does for my inflatable kite at 45°C.
Weather Resistant - Kites are in the sun and salt water all the time so the repair needs to stand up to the elements.
Viable For Kite Schools - If a kite school can reduce downtime from damaged kites, they can teach more people the wonders of this amazing sport.
After 16 months of research and development, we have finally succeeded in developing the solutions that meet our needs. We put the product to the test and it passed with flying colours. It worked so well for us that we decided to share our creation with the world of kiters. Since then, we have been busy meeting the demand.
We sincerely hope you never have to endure kite damage when the wind blows. If you do, we are here for you.
